Marijuana and christians?

why do so many christians think marijuana is a bad thing. ive done a lot of study on the subject and really cant find where the bible says we shouldnt use it.in fact the opposit.

Marijuana and christians?
You sure put a lot of work into things. It%26#039;s simple. a) evangelicals disapprove of everything,except going to church. b) most Christians are not evangelicals. c) Most Christians - mainstream Protestant or Catholic - wouldn%26#039;t really have a problem about maryjane. Unless you%26#039;re using to excess and getting torpid,neglecting yourself or getting stoned around the kids. Ok? All that research for nothing...what to do think we%26#039;re here for?
Reply:I believe in god and i do not have any bad feelings about people who use marijuana. I think it has medicinal strenght. i do not use it but i have several friends that do. I think somehow along the way it got a bad name and it can%26#039;t be reversed. I do believe it is natural herb from the earth. Just the wrong people got hold of it and got on a band wagon of it%26#039;s %26quot;badness%26quot; It is not addicting like cigarettes. it is actually safer than alcohol.

In my teen years I smoked mj-it is just as bad for you as all drugs.Any one with a working brain knows this.Sorry but it is the truth.It also leads to stronger drugs.%26lt;%26gt;%26lt;
Reply:not only is mary j not a bad thing, but it is less harmful than alcohol and should be legal. The only reason it is not is because there is no %26quot;marijuana lobby%26quot; throwing money at congress. This is why tobacco and alcohol, two drugs that are more harmful to society, are still legal.





Jane (answered below), you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. I smoked marijuana every single day for over three years and had to quit for a new job. I did so without ANY problems. But I can%26#039;t quit smoking cigs. to save my life. marijuana is NOT physically addictive, only psychologically. Just look at the studies that have been done.

Reply:I agree. However, we are also commnded to obey authority, and weed is a direct disobediance of the law, thus a sin.
Reply:I am a devout Christian who smoked marijuana for eight years almost daily. I didn%26#039;t see it as a problem then but now that I am more religious I just see it as something that demotivated me and led me to not be able to use the gifts God gave me. My mind is much clearer now. I have met quite a few religious Christians who don%26#039;t see it as a problem but I%26#039;m not one of them. I don%26#039;t think it should necessarily be illegal but it isn%26#039;t in line with Christian morals. The reason being pot is a temporary joy that leads to diminishing returns. The authentic joys provided by God get increasingly greater not lesser. Logically I concluded this after I was just pretty much burnt out and felt empty. A God given gift like marital sex or alcohol in moderation will not do this.


The Bible doesn%26#039;t say anything about marijuana because it wasn%26#039;t part of the culture God was communicating with. By logical extension though you can apply the verses against alcohol intoxication to include all drugs including marijuana.





The verses you sited seem to be about grains and plants as food in my opinion.

The only interpretation I can get from the bible, that says pot is bad, is the idea that we should submit to authority. And the authorities say it is illegal. Pot is natural and God created. And therefore it is good.

Reply:although im not a christian, I do feel very much more at one with the earth when I toke up, also it can be very spiritual also evr since I started smoking, I havent had a single headache, and I used to have them at least once a week
