House blessing gift for my b/f.?

I want to give him an indoor plant. He%26#039;s a busy man. I want a plant that is virtually maintenance free. Artificial plants, not acceptable. Any ideas.

House blessing gift for my b/f.?
A %26quot;Mother-In-Law%26#039;s Tongue,%26quot; sansevieria, is a really hardy plant that thrives on neglect. In fact, the only way I know to kill one is by overwatering it. They do well in all different kinds of light, and they seem to like being rootbound. They are as close as it gets to virtually maintenance free.

Reply:You didn%26#039;t mention how big a plant, but what about a %26quot;lucky bamboo%26quot; plant? They come in all shapes and sizes. I try to remember to water mine once a week, but if I forget - no big deal and do a quarter turn so it gets equal light.
Reply:An aloe plant is a great man plant! They are so very hard to kill. You only need to water them once a week or two. They are great to use for burns if needed too! My green thumb is worse than any mans and I have had an aloe plant for almost 2 years and it is thriving wonderfully! Good luck-Amanda
Reply:succulents. put an attractive variety together in the same clay or ceramic planter. almost impossible to kill, unless he%26#039;s the compulsive overwatering type, which most guys aren%26#039;t. start him out with some good quality potting soil, like black gold, not the supermarket junk, and mulch in the top with decorative pebbles. should last him a very long time, even with neglect.
Reply:A desert cactus. Easy care and when they flower it adds alot to the plant. Medium may be best.

Reply:Here%26#039;s a list of sturdy plants that can be grown indoors with neglect:

1. Cactus- less water, bright light pref. Window

2. Sansieverias- can withstand extreme neglection, any light, absorbs toxins and odour, neutralises ions.

3. Aglaonemas- Shady indoor/ outdoor plant

4. Bromeliads- Less maintenance

5. Tillandsia- Hang anywhere. Bright to moderate light

GOOD LUCK!
Reply:English Ivy, very hardy plant-all is required, a little watering and once or twice yearly plant food.
Reply:What about an ornamental pepper plant. It will add color, as well as interest.
Reply:I bought myself a plant to celebrate my first apartment in college thirty seven years ago. It was a Ponytail Palm (Beucarnea recurvata), not a true palm. They have a swollen base like an onion with a trunk topped with a grass like ponytail. It had a base the size of a ping pong ball and stood about 8%26quot; tall. Over the years it has followed me everywhere and been through hell. When I worked in England it would go two or three months without water. Today it has a base as big as a beach ball, stands six foot and weighs about a hundred and fifty lbs.beautifull plant. RScott
