What do I do about young impatiens turning white?

I planted impatiens from seeds in a small greenhouse kit, they sprouted well, and I just transferred them to a bigger pot. We put them outside, we live in upstate NY and it was about 60%26#039; and sunny, some of the leaves turned white. I don%26#039;t know what caused this and they are gifts my youngest kids plan to give for Mother%26#039;s Day...please help. I don%26#039;t want to start over again (no time)

I would put them BACK in your green house until it gets warmer!! If it was only 60%26#039; in the day time, it was a lot colder than that at night! Impatiens are warm weather plants. If your greenhouse is only for sprouting plants, then I would put them in a very warm spot (like next to a south facing fence or wall) or in a very protected place. You should cover them (at least at night) with floating row covers or something else to protect them from the cold.

What are great gift for a Mom!!! I would be thrilled to get something like this!

Good Luck!!
Reply:Some impatiens such as %26quot;Snow and Ice%26quot; or %26quot;Peaches and Cream%26quot; have white tipped leaves. I%26#039;ve never grown them, personally, (I live in Florida and we can%26#039;t grow all types here, too hot). Perhaps that is what you planted. My only suggestion is to give them time and wait and see what happens. Whatever you do, try to keep them healthy so your wife knows how much she is loved (consider taking pictures of the young plants, just in case). I think you%26#039;ll be fine.

To tell you the truth, that is one of the sweetest questions I%26#039;ve seen here...what darling children you have, and what a great husband you must be.
Reply:sounds like sun burn on the leaves you should cold harden them in the shade before you can give them any sun shine , they prefer the shade but will tolerate morning sun
