Different between tropical fish %26amp; coldwater fish?Different between salt and freshwater fish?pick BEST ANSEWER?
Coldwater fish live in cooler water and don't require a heater examples are goldfish and minnows, tropical fish live in warmer water and need a heater, most other commonly kept fish are tropical. Freshwater fish live in freshwater, saltwater fish live in saltwater and brackish water fish live in water between fresh and true saltwater. Both fresh and saltwater fish have coldwater and tropical variates though coldwater saltwater fish are hard to come by. Other than goldfish unless you go to a specialty aquarium store most of the fish you will come across will be tropical freshwater fish

You have a tropical set up but you absolutly cannot get any more fish right now with the fish you have. To safely keep both the Jack and the Oscar you would need a 75 gal minimum and then it is a risk that they will not kill each other. They will also eat anything else you put in the tank.

If you get rid of the fish you have in your setup you could keep a couple of schools of small to medium sized tetras, or a few trios of live bearers like guppies or platies, or one school of tetras and one trio of live bearers. A trio of cories would go well with either choice. If you don't use the heater you could also house a single fancy goldfish.

As far as plants, val, java moss, java ferns, and anubius are all easy keepers.

For filters my preference is the penguin line of filters in the appropriate size but everyone has there own preferences.
Reply:Coldwater fish are goldfish and you could keep one in a 20 gallon tank. Tropical fish require warm water and are most other fish that are not saltwater types. A 20 gallon tank is on the small side to set up a saltwater tank.
