I got a majesty palm as a gift, looked great, it appears root has rotted and huge part has broken off!?

First, the leafs started turning brown, so i repotted it, then it slowly more and more of the leaves starting browning, so i thought needed more water, then this morning i noticed it leaning out of the pot, i examined it, and at the trunk, which looks rotted out, it had broken completely, so i pulled it out and there is another section of the plant that looks, ok, it has new branches, but I don't know if it's potted too deep in the pot or what, what do you suggest?

I AM VERY SOORY, BUT DONT BE DISCOURAGES BECAUSE THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PLANT.

YES IT IS ROOT ROT. MAYBE YOU WATERED IT TOO MUCH, OR THE NURSURY IT WAS RAISED IN DIDNT TAKE CARE OF IT

WHAT TO DO:

YOU MUST CUT ALL DEAD PARTS OR ROTTED PARTS OFF, AND DO NOT WATER OF A WHILE. IF THE TRUNK IS COMPLETELY OR MOSTLY ROTTED THEN IT MAY BE TOO LATE.

ALSO

IT MAY BE IN THE POT TOO DEEP. IF YOU RUN OUT OF OPTIONS RE-POT IT CAUSE IT CANT HURT.

GOOD LUCK
Reply:u should cut the rotten part completely, cos it will infect the healthy part. and not overwater it - u shoudl touch the soil, if it feels dry - water it. if it feels wet for touch - do not water. it is better to not water enough that soil dries than overwater - if a plant dries u may rewive it by watering, if a plant started rotting - there is nothing u can do. yea, and change the soil your pnat was growing in and wash the pot. rot is infectious. soil u should throw away
