What should I get for my step-grandmother?

My step-grandmother is having her birthday party this weekend. I've been working non-stop so I still haven't been able to get her a present. It may be her last birthday seeing as she has come close to death a few times recently and her husband died last year. Because of that I want to make sure it is something really nice.


What are some good gift ideas that you can think of? It's not that I'm not creative, I just thought someone might have some neat ideas.


She lives in an assisted living center without a porch or garden, so no outdoor plants will work. She has a good sense of humor, loves playing cards, and the occasional glass of vodka (gotta love Grandma). She doesn't really wear jewelry and doesn't really watch movies.


So basically I need some gift ideas for a widowed grandma who's old-fashioned with a sense of humor. Any ideas?

for all she has done for you.





You can't put time in a bottle,

have all your family members write a page about a funny time they had with Grandma


and on the same page another time with Grandma that they will always remember.





Put all the pages together


have someone who is artistic


help with the stapling and book cover.


She will appreciate that and your time


more than any gift you could ever buy.


Take a photo of the whole family together,


Paste it on the front page later.


I bet she keeps it till the day she dies.

Reply:The most valuable gift is time, spend the afternoon with her, get her a beautiful card, give her a manicure or take her for one, take her to lunch . Pick her up a spectacular dessert that would be a great treat for her, get enough for two and share it with her. I would go get my grandma quite often and take her to get her hair done and buy her lunch. I no longer have her with me and I consider those memories of just her and I, I consider those my treasures.
