Why does a semi-feral young cat keep leaving twigs at my door step?

Last August a stray had kittens in my yard and one has hung around and lives in my yard. He'll come in my back door a foot or two and stays near me when I'm putting food out for him but won't let me touch him. At times I've been able to feed him a raw meat treat from a plastic spoon, and I got him to stop slapping the spoon to knock the meat off, but sometimes he's just not in the mood and will give out a little "hiss" to let me know he's so over the spoon thing and prefers his food in his dish or on the ground.

Recently, I've opened my back door to to find a few twigs on my doorstep, just a few pieces of dried brush. I figured it was him because if I'm in the yard, he lets out short meows and breaks sticks off dead plants in the garden with his mouth and rubs the dried plants and posts and walks around with his tail high (tail held high = a happy cat). The first time I thanked him for his very generous gift and brought the twigs inside.

What does it mean that he leaves the twigs?

Cats are strange and always do things that make you wonder what is going on in there little minds. Be happy it isn't a decapitated mouse.
Reply:As he matures and rodents come into his skill set, he will bring those to you. A feral male in my woodsy neighborhood that I feed brings me rat and mice. He sits across the street when I go out for the paper and watches my reaction to his gift. Thanx cat.
Reply:sounds like you have a friend who is leaving you his gifts of his great huntings and he likes you.
Reply:Funny thing cats, they do the darnedest things.

As the other have said its leaving you a gift, wait until it leaves you a mouse or rat and then howls for you to come and have a look, then looks at you as if to say aren't you going to eat?
Reply:some cats will actualy leve you "gifts" for taking care of them! i had a cat do that to me once!
Reply:How should I know?
Reply:He's leaving you a present.

You know, you could contact a group that works with feral cats to get it neutered.
